About the Sponsor

This scholarship was established by members of the graduating class of 1974 of Dallas Community Schools, as DC-G was then called.

Most of the class of 1974 started school together in kindergarten and stayed together until graduation. Dallas Center had a population of approximately 1100 and Grimes had a population of about 800 when the school districts joined in the late 1960's. Classes were small, which forged a closeness and companionship that turned classmates into family. The class graduated 48 students. Some went on to college, some didn’t, and some couldn’t. Some worked in sales, as laborers, farmers, mechanics, nurses, insurance agents, finance officers, physicians, construction workers, tech experts, data analysts, and other life work. Some drifted away, some came back, and some didn’t. Members decided to memorialize this time and closeness amongst us as we saw our classmates pass on.
